Why explorers came to Namibia?  To study and draw maps about Namibia  To know the people and their cultures  To find out natural resources of Namibia. 2. Why traders came to Namibia?  They came for business  They traded guns for cattle, sheep and other items  Hunted elephants and rhinos for ivory  Hunted other animals for leather and ostrich for feathers. 3. Why missionaries came to Namibia?  The main aim is to teach about the Christian religion.  Started schools to teach people how to read and write.  They taught new skills in farming, art, building houses,.

Regional Geography

 REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY - Physical features are natural landforms and water bodies of an area. - The natural landforms include deserts, mountains and canyons. - The bodies of water are the rivers, swamps, lakes. Major rivers:  Kavango River, Kunene River, Zambezi River, Orange River, Cuando River, Limpopo River. - Deserts: Namib Desert, Kalahari Desert, Karoo Desert. - Swamps/pans. A swamp is a forested area (with plants) covered in water. Okavango swamp, Etosha pan, Makgadikgadi pan,  - Mountain: Cape Mountain ranges, Drakensberg Mtn, Maluti Mtn, Thabana Ntlenyana Mtn.

  Compare the theory of evolution with the idea of creationism Creation   - All things were created in six (6) days. - Humans were made from dust by God. - All wildlife was made into their  biological type. - God cares for all things and provides for  all. - The universe is less than 10 000 years old. Evolution   - Evolution took place billions of years and  still taking place. - Humans evolved from certain creatures. - Animals evolved as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. - Environment favours the fittest. The  weaker dies. There is no God. - The universe is over 10 billion years old.

The Solar System

  The  Solar System  is the  gravitationally bound  system of the  Sun  and the objects that  orbit  it.   It was  formed about 4.6 billion years ago  when a dense region of a  molecular cloud  collapsed, forming the Sun and a  protoplanetary disc . The Sun is a typical star that maintains a  balanced equilibrium  by the  fusion  of hydrogen into helium at its  core , releasing this energy from its outer  photosphere . Astronomers  classify  it as a  G-type main-sequence star . The Solar  System  Consists of  the  sun and the Planets.  Mecury , Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune.  Pluto  is a dwarf  planet.

Archaeology Namibia

 Archaeology is the study human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes. So today we are exploring  one of Namibia's World Heritage Sites- Twyfelfontein  The Twyfelfontein is a site of ancient rock engravings in the Kunene Region of North-Western Namibia. It is seen as a World Heritage Site  because it forms a coherent, extensive and high quality record of ritual practices relating to hunger-gatherer communities in this part of southern Africa over at least 2000 years and eloquently illustrates the links between the ritual and economic practices of hunter-gatherers.
